What to do in Mallorca? Everything you need to know
You're going to Mallorca and don't know where to start? This guide answers all your questions — by people who live and work on the island, not by algorithms.
When to visit Mallorca?
High season runs from June to September: guaranteed sun, warm sea (26–28°C), but crowds and high prices. The best time to explore without fighting for space is May and October — the weather is excellent (22–25°C), prices drop by 30% and sites are pleasant. July–August: it's beautiful but avoid the most popular beaches between 11am and 4pm. Winter (November–March): ideal for nature and hiking, but many restaurants and hotels close.
How to get around Mallorca?
Car rental is the most flexible way to explore the island, but roads along the south coast and cove tracks require a 4x4 or high-clearance vehicle. The TIB bus network covers Palma and main tourist areas well, but doesn't serve secret beaches. The historic Palma–Sóller train is an experience in itself. For truly wild spots — Cala Pi, Cala Maioris, Cap Blanc — only a 4x4 gets through.
Budget and accommodation in Mallorca
Mallorca covers all price ranges. A realistic daily budget in high season: €80–150/person (3★ hotel + meals + activities). The most affordable areas: Llucmajor, Campos, the island interior. The most expensive: Port d'Andratx, Deià, Formentor. Tip: book accommodation 3–4 months in advance for July–August dates.
Cultural highlights not to miss
Mallorca is much more than its beaches. Palma's old town (Sa Gerreria, El Born) is worth half a day. La Seu cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece overlooking the sea, is free on Tuesday to Friday mornings. Sineu market, every Wednesday, is the most authentic on the island — livestock, garden vegetables, local pottery. Valldemossa, where Chopin spent the winter of 1838–39, is listed among Spain's most beautiful villages.
